Manna Experience
You may be familiar with the phrase ‘manna from heaven’ - describing a gift from God, or an unexpected stroke of good fortune when all seems lost.
Well… you may not know that manna is a real thing, in fact a natural, organic substance which comes from a very specific species of Mountain Ash tree which is only cultivated commercially in the Madonie region of Sicily nowadays.
The Manna Experience is based in an orchard in the hills above Castelbuono where the climate is ideal to grow the trees which produce manna. Mario, the farmer, will show you how the trees are grown and their lifecycle, and how the manna is harvested. He will explain the medicinal properties and the uses of the ‘white gold’ as it is known.
Please note: The venue for this experience is just out of town. The price does not include transport to the venue, however, this can be arranged separately using the ProLoco shuttle if you do not have a vehicle of your own. It can be reached by foot if you prefer to walk - allow at least 30 minutes
You’ll be walking up some countryside hills, so do wear suitable shoes.
€25 per person

Maximum group size: 12
Duration: approximately 2 hours
++ SUMMER ONLY - manna is only harvested when the optimum weather conditions are achieved - after a long dry spell in the summer months when the temperature is around 30 degrees.
