The Monk’s Retreat

The Monk's Retreat occupies a beautifully characterful space on the first floor of our 16th century monastery — the first room you encounter as you enter through our front door. With its unique arched double doors in local chestnut wood — the crown of a vast stone arch that descends all the way to the cobbled courtyard below — this is a room with genuine historic soul.

We are currently completing a sympathetic renovation, adding a beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom while honouring every original architectural detail. The Monk's Retreat will be ready to welcome guests from Autumn 2026.
