Castelbuono Restaurants

Castelbuono punches well above its weight for cuisine. Food is so good in this small Sicilian town that even the locals like to eat out! Here are our personal recommendations for where to eat in and around Castelbuono (in alphabetical order):

ANTICO BAGLIO

Castelbuono's most beloved restaurant — and once you've been, you'll understand why. Antico Baglio has the rare quality of feeling simultaneously like a special occasion venue and a neighbourhood favourite, drawing locals and discerning visitors alike in equal measure.

The star of the show is the pizza — hand-stretched and expertly crafted by one of Sicily's few female pizzaiole, who has been spinning dough here since her teenage years. Watch her work and you'll understand immediately why the pizza here is unlike anything else in town.

But Antico Baglio is far more than pizza. The primi and secondi draw deeply on the traditional food culture of the Madonie mountains — pork, wild mushrooms, local cheeses, hand-made salamis and sausages, fresh seasonal ingredients sourced as locally as possible. An extensive wine list completes the picture.

The setting is extraordinary — a wonderful open terrace with panoramic views across the valley and towards the rolling Sicilian hills beyond. In warmer months, the sliding doors open completely, merging indoors and outdoors into one magnificent dining space. For larger groups, additional terraces accommodate bigger parties beautifully. And for the ultimate romantic evening — ask about the single secluded table on the most private terrace. Just two of you, the valley view and the stars. 🌙

Service is provided by owner, host and chef Natale Allegra — warm, personal and genuinely welcoming. This is very much a family affair, and once the team recognises you as a returning visitor, you are welcomed back like one of their own.

Fun fact: Eagle-eyed visitors may notice that Antico Baglio's ceramic sign features the famous fountain of our very own Ivy Courtyard — a reminder that Natale's restaurant once called our neighbourhood home!

Cuisine: Traditional Sicilian / Madonie / Pizza

Price range: €€

Best for: Romantic dinners, family groups, special occasions, pizza lovers

🌿 Daniel's tip: “Bag a balcony table on a warm evening and order the pizza — then stay for the secondi. Ask Natale what's fresh that day. And don't rush — this is a place to linger.

🌿 Booking tip: Antico Baglio can fill up quickly, especially during festival weekends and summer evenings. For balcony tables or larger groups, booking ahead is strongly recommended. Walk-ins are often possible on quieter weekdays — but if that balcony table matters to you, call ahead!"
