Every year, Castelbuono hosts one of Europe's most celebrated international music festivals — Ypsigrock. Always a sell-out event, this four-day extravaganza of eclectic, carefully curated music attracts live music lovers from across Italy and around the world. With satellite events springing up across the town alongside the main programme, there is something for every musical taste.
Established in 1997, Ypsigrock Festival has earned a reputation as not only Italy's leading indie festival and the first boutique festival in Italy, but also one of the most exciting and distinctive small festivals in Europe. In 2019, Ypsigrock was nominated for the Best Small European Festival award for the eighth consecutive year at the European Festival Awards — the most influential festival award ceremony in Europe, held at Eurosonic in Groningen. It remains the only Italian festival ever shortlisted at the EFA.
The festival takes place across four stages spread throughout Castelbuono — a genuinely town-wide event — with shows starting in the mid-afternoon. Uniquely, the stages don't operate simultaneously, meaning you never miss an act due to clashing schedules.
